All Onda Drive rentals include insurance with own-damage cover, third-party liability (up to legal limits in force in Portugal), theft protection and 24/7 roadside assistance throughout the country. The insurance is valid in mainland Portugal and underwritten by an insurer authorised by the ASF (Portuguese Insurance and Pension Funds Supervisory Authority).
The excess is the maximum amount the customer is liable for in the event of a claim. On the Essential plan, the excess is €1,000. On the Relax plan (+€5/day), the excess is reduced to €0 — no financial liability for covered claims. No deposit or card pre-authorisation is required at vehicle handover on any plan.
The insurance does not cover damage resulting from: driving under the influence of alcohol or psychoactive substances, driving on unpaved roads (off-road), driving by a person not listed as driver in the contract, intentionally caused damage, loss or damage to keys, interior damage caused by animals or objects, fines and traffic offences. These cases may result in full liability for repair costs.
The minimum age to rent is 18 years with a valid driving licence held for over 1 year. Drivers between 18 and 24 pay a young driver fee of 8% of the base amount. Drivers aged 70 or over cannot rent due to policy restrictions. You may add an additional driver free of charge on the Relax plan. All drivers must present a valid driving licence at vehicle pick-up.
In case of an accident, the customer must: (1) ensure the safety of all parties involved; (2) call emergency services (112) whenever there are injuries or disagreement between parties; (3) complete the European Accident Statement (DAAA); (4) take photos of the location, vehicles involved and the other driver's documents; (5) contact Onda Drive immediately via WhatsApp on +351 920 523 249. Failure to report within 24 hours may compromise coverage.
In the event of theft, the customer must file a police report (PSP or GNR) within 24 hours and contact Onda Drive immediately. Theft coverage requires the return of the original keys and vehicle registration document. If the original keys are lost, the customer is liable for the costs of lock replacement and key duplication.
On vehicle pick-up and return, an inspection is carried out with documented photos of the car's condition. Minor damage such as superficial scratches, dents up to 5 cm and normal wear is not charged. Significant damage will be assessed according to the insurer's official price list. The customer is entitled to receive a copy of the inspection photos.
